SPINOSAURUS'S RELATIVES... OR JUST OTHER SPINOSAURIDS - THE CONTINUATION TO THE EPIC SERIES
SPINOSAURUS'S RELATIVES... OR JUST OTHER SPINOSAURIDS
New Discovery Allows Me To continue this Epic Series
Irritator challengeri, a huge spinosaurid which could in some way split the two parts of its lower jaw in half?
"I... I can not describe this. I am on my breaking point with spinosaurids, I thought this torture of a clade would stop getting new stuff about it in 2022 but guess what? It came back with something even worse than last time." -Aggelos Mantos
As we all probably know, the 2000's are the golden age of paleontology. New mysteries are uncovered through new methods, fossils are being uncovered, things that were left on the shelves to collect DUST are being brought to light... It is literally the dinosaurs, and all of our prehistoric past, being rediscovered. One of clades which we are getting to know better since this revolution is the Spinosauridae, which is literally tossed around like a ball every year. So what update do we have on them? Well, We got some news about Irritator and Possibly some relatives of it.
Irritator and its Terrifying ability
The Irritator has had the title of the spinosaurid with the most complete skull since its discovery, with 2/3rds of its skull having been found. With this advantage, some scientists decided to look at how its jaw opened and closed along with other mechanics. You know what TERRORS they witnessed?
Well, the two lower jaws could literally spread out in each side, making a big flat surface which would possibly help with swallowing food. Below is a 3D reconstruction of how this would look like.
Now, we are not sure if this trait would have been shared with other spinosaurids, however it sure is already terrifying in one.
That is all for today! Sorry For Not posting for nearly A month, I will definitelly post 2 more posts In this month and I will try posting 6+ on the next one. Happy Summer Everybody!
